Happy Holiday’s to all!!!! It’s Friday, so that means Xûr is back at it again trading goods for strange coins. During this Christmas weekend has Xûr brought you goodies, or is he handing out coal? Guess it depends on what you think of the items he brought to the tower this week. As always, these are just my suggestions of what Xûr has brought to the table.
Xûr this week is located in Tower North, across the hall from the Speaker. His inventory is loaded with year two remakes that are just begging to be bought.
Going from left to right on his inventory screen starts us off with the Titan gear. This week’s Titan armor so happens to be “The Armamentarium”. This chest piece, just like its year one item, grants you an additional grenade. Depending on the class you enjoy playing, this armor rolls with you almost completely. This week Xûr is selling one which grants additional armor or recovery for the defender titan class. If you are curious whether you should twist fate and use some glass needles to change the armor class boosts, have no fear. The secondary perk allows you to select either more special ammo or heavy ammo and will always be there no matter how many times you use the glass needles to twist fate. Extremely balanced no matter what your playstyle is like, both PvE and PvP will benefit from this armor piece.
Overall Opinion: If you have Destiny running right now, pick up your controller and go to Xûr to buy this. If you prefer a different class to have the perks on, pick up some Glass Needles to test your luck at getting the sub-roll you are wishing for. It will cost you 13 Strange Coins, but they are coins well spent.
To the right of that is the Hunter item of the week the “Bones of Eao”. These were a blast to use during year one, and I equip them all the time while ghost hunting or traversing through the always dangerous jump puzzles. Mainly this is because the starting perk of these boots allows your double (or triple) jump to be upgraded with an additional jump. This week’s stat roll benefits the Nightstalker sub-class by granting additional agility after a void double kill. Additionally, the weapon’s roll on these boots are phenomenal if you like sniper rifles. It comes with increased Sniper rounds or Machine Gun rounds. Personally, if you buy these, I would not advise using glass needles since it comes with such a great weapons ammo roll.
Overall Opinion: If your main priority is PvP, don’t bother with these as your exotic item as there are so many other more useful hunter exotics. In PvE they have the potential to be great, but again there are other exotics out there that will be more useful depending on your playstyle. If you hate or suck at jumping especially during the raids (i.e. jumping puzzles, running relic during Oryx/Sisters) these become a must buy then for 13 Strange Coins.
Last but not least of the guardian classes is the Warlock item of the week, “The Ram”. During year one this helmet was the most sought after item for the Warlock class. This is solely because of its main perk Strength of the Ram. This increases your armor, and all Voidwalker subclass melees trigger life steal on a hit. Although Bungie has turned down the amount of armor gained, it is still a viable helmet to wear. Ultimately the way this helmet’s perks run they are built more for PvE (gaining bonus super energy from killing minions of the darkness), but the main perk of this helmet can offer some bonuses to the PvP life as well.
Overall Opinion: PvE is a must buy. This helmet can help you out of tough situations with the life steal perk, and you’ll be generating supers extremely quickly while killing off minions. PvP depends on if you prefer the Voidwalker sub-class in the Crucible. If that is you, then pick this helmet up as well for 13 Strange Coins.
Ah the one that most of you have been waiting for”¦”¦The “MIDA Multi-Tool”. With a name like that, this item should be in every guardians vault or hands. Currently this seems to be the selected weapon many of Crucible players have flocked to post 2.1.0 Patch. That is completely reasonable as well since it comes with the Third Eye perk which allows you to keep your radar up while aiming down your sights helping you keep your battlefield awareness up so you don’t get gunned down from behind. Another primary perk it holds gives boost to movement speed and fires on a hair trigger. That being said, after testing the trigger pull it is not severely noticeable. Yes you have to apply just slightly less pressure to the trigger. Let’s be honest though, in a firefight we are all just pulling the trigger as fast as we can sometimes, so the best part about the perk is the speed burst. This gun is built to be a little more useful inside the Crucible, helping you see around while aiming and increasing your speed to get from objective to objective. Its range and stability are balanced and combined with the fastest reload rate make this gun extremely useful in PvP. If you do decide to pick up the MIDA please read the super good advice posted on Reddit about aiming this gun.
Overall Opinion: Must buy if you do not have already. Great weapon and extremely helpful in PvP if you prefer sticking to ranged combat. It can be yours for the semi-low cost of 23 Strange Coins, trust me it’s worth it.
Additionally, Xûr is selling the legacy engram for all the grimoire hunters out there who have yet to collect all the year 1 exotics. If you want to try your luck to complete your Heavy weapons engrams grimoire then it will cost you 31 strange coins per engram.
As always Xûr is selling two Sparrow drives this week including the Plasma Drive (Blue contrail) and Emerald Coil (Green contrail). Each will cost you 23 strange coins. If you are low on Heavy ammo, synthesis three of them will cost you one strange coin. The two other consumables you can purchase from Xûr every week are the “Three of Coins” at 5 for the cost of 7 strange coins, and the Glass Needles at 3 for the cost of 3 strange coins 3 motes of light and 1 exotic shard.
As always, I highly advise stocking up on Three of Coins with any extra Strange Coins you have left over.
Happy Xûr Day and Merry Christmas!!
