Focus Home Interactive has recently announced the exciting news Insurgency: Sandstorm, the realistic modern combat FPS, is being enhanced and polished for release on consoles later this year. The FPS has garnered a strong, and vocal following on Steam for quite some time, being lauded for its extreme attention to detail and focus on creating a more intense combat experience without making it too casual. The new game will be making its way to consoles for release sometime in 2018.
New World Interactive originally released Insurgency in 2014 for Steam. The source-code created shooter featured a polished blend of accessible combat gameplay with realistic parameters, including one-life gameplay and the need to work together. For four years, a solid community built around the game, harking of their experiences in multiplayer and online co-op.
Insurgency, unlike other modern combat shooters, is an experience based on the senses. Shooting a gun indoors will sound incredibly different. There is a sense of weight and physicality to the weapons as well.
There are no minimaps showing the direction of enemies or enemy fire, so players will have to rely on their wits and skills to survive. If they hear the whiz of an RPG flying at them, they will need to use quick reflexes avoid getting hurt. Even death is difficult. Players will not respawn until a fellow player achieves an objective.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is a mod of the original game, featuring more game modes, refined gameplay mechanics, enhanced presentation, and a single player campaign. By bringing the game to consoles, the team hopes to broaden its audience to other players eager for a new take on the modern military shooter.
Insurgency: Sandstorm launches for PS4, XBox One, and Steam in 2018.
