Things are about to get giant for the free to play MMO Neverwinter Online with the upcoming release of the frost giant themed Storm King’s Thunder. Battling the gargantuan chilly titans was a fun part of many a Forgotten Realms novel or adventure module and now Neverwinter looks to continue that grand tradition.
You will not be embarking on this journey alone however as fan favorites from the literary series will be involved in the goings on. Players will be able to interact with fan favorites Catti-brie, Wulfgar and Harshnag as they head to Ten Towns to investigate and end the Frost Giant problem. Players will visit the town of Bryn Shander, the largest of the Ten Towns and a major trading center in the Dale.
Neverwinter has always done a great job of making the characters and places from the pen and paper game pop to life and I for one am excited to step in the digital footsteps of some of the biggest heroes in Faerûn. Characters like Wulfgar and Catti-brie should make fantastic additions to the in-game roster of familiar faces and the story line which is based on an upcoming Wizards of the Coast adventure looks to draw on the familiarity many of us have with one of the most detailed shared worlds in existence.
Of course, all of this comes with a slew of in-game additions like new weapons and armor and a brand new dungeon tier with the debut of the first Tier 3 dungeon called Fangbreaker Island which is sure to be full of high-level loot. The expansion will have a new end game campaign that in addition to Bryn Shander will feature Cold Run and The Lonely Wood.
It looks like fans of Icewind Dale will have a lot to get excited about when Storm King’s Thunder drops on August 16th for PC and XBox One with a PS4 release coming shortly thereafter.
