philadelphia hosting bridge opportunity 5k may 15th

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The city of Philadelphia can best be described by the story of Rocky Balboa; a man with a good heart overcoming the obstacles of his world, and himself, to become one of the greatest champions in the ring. It is the City of Brotherly Love where citizens help each other through the rough times. Carrying this mantra, the city of Philadelphia and the Veterans Multi-Service Center (VMC) are gathering together for the Bridge To Opportunity 5K Run/Walk on May 15th, 2016.

The run will benefit the VMC of Philadelphia to help aid in the job training and employment of veterans through the center. The VMC is a non-profit organization dedicated to full support of veterans and their families. Through opportunities, recreational programs, and training, the VMC addresses the needs of veterans from all conflicts, from the Vietnam War to Operation Desert Storm to Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as Operation Enduring Freedom. Since their founding in 1980 their programming and services have since diversified and expanded to serve a larger population of diverse veterans and needs.

In 2015, the VMC was able to train and place 300 veterans into new jobs, supporting various industries in and around the city.  The VMC has over 5,000 square feet dedicated to job training as well. Last year, more than 200 veterans went through job training courses for a new and specific field.

The 5k will allow the VMC to continue their mission. Pre-registration is currently ongoing at Run The Day . On-site registration for the event will begin at 9:00 AM at the Ben Franklin Bridge. The event will officially begin at 10:00 AM. The route will take participants over the Delaware River into Camden and back into Philly to finish at the VMC.
