Redshirt Roundtable: December 2022

Happy New Year, everyone! We had quite the year in 2022, full of its ups and downs, but we made it to 2023, and we look forward to what this year will bring to our community and beyond. This Redshirt Roundtable, we asked our community the following questions:

  • What is your favorite gift you've ever received, whether as a birthday present, Christmas gift, or other occasion?

  • What is a good holiday (any holiday) memory you have?

  • With winter and holidays coming up, some people have a difficult time, either because of mental health or other reasons. What are some words of encouragement you have for other people?

  • Winter holidays mean winter treats. What's something you look forward to eating/drinking/treating yourself to during the colder season?

As always, thank you to everyone who participated. We are looking forward to whatever may come in 2023!

What is your favorite gift you've ever received, whether as a birthday present, Christmas gift, or other occasion?

I got myself a PS5 on release for the holidays👌😁

What is a good holiday (any holiday) memory you have?

New years eve party with my cousin, his gf and my brother. Can't remember a lot of it anymore but we sure went all out partying.😜

With winter and holidays coming up, some people have a difficult time, either because of mental health or other reasons. What are some words of encouragement you have for other people?

Make sure to take it easy, possibly take some time off and stay busy with stuff you enjoy💪

Winter holidays mean winter treats. What's something you look forward to eating/drinking/treating yourself to during the colder season?

Hot choco and oliebollen (its a dutch thing, it directly translates to "oily balls" which sounds kinda odd but trust me, they're good) 😜

What is your favorite gift you've ever received, whether as a birthday present, Christmas gift, or other occasion?

Not one particular. I'm not big on getting gifts. I'd rather have just the small memories that eventually all melt together into one large large happy remembrance that I can add to year after year...

What is a good holiday (any holiday) memory you have?

The last Christmas with my dad, though I didn't know it at the time; by the next Christmas he was gone. This taught me to cherish the present and not worry about the future.

With winter and holidays coming up, some people have a difficult time, either because of mental health or other reasons. What are some words of encouragement you have for other people?

You.Are.Not (NEVER). Alone. Instead of looking at a broad picture, look for the small moments that give you peace: a child's smile, their laugh. A sunrise, a bird chirping. Those small little happy moments can show you that there is a great deal of joy around you, and plenty more that can be found.

Winter holidays mean winter treats. What's something you look forward to eating/drinking/treating yourself to during the colder season?

The mulled (warm) wine we make every year.

What is your favorite gift you've ever received, whether as a birthday present, Christmas gift, or other occasion?

I bought myself an Xbox Series X as a graduation present for finishing my degree. I've gotten plenty of use out of it.

What is a good holiday (any holiday) memory you have?

Every year, my friends and I try to hold a friendsgiving. It's always full of food. Every friendsgiving is a good one.

With winter and holidays coming up, some people have a difficult time, either because of mental health or other reasons. What are some words of encouragement you have for other people?

Find your way of celebrating. It doesn't always need to be with other people. Sometimes you just want to take the day and pamper yourself. Do it. Treat yourself the best way you want to be treated.

I love a good ol hot chocolate.
