Redshirt Roundtable: Meeting the Call to Arms

November is a big time for Stack Up as Veterans Day is not only our birthday as a nonprofit, but it's one of our big fundraising months. On Veterans Day, we held a Call to Arms LIVE event with over 16 participating streamers competing for the chance to call themselves the Call to Arms Champion. More than that, during the month of November, other Content Creators put on their own fundraisers to help us push toward our goal. This year's goal is $600k, and we're now $70k away from getting there.

This month's Redshirt Roundtable is all about fundraising. Whether our community members are fundraising now or have in the past, we asked them the following questions:

  • How did you learn about fundraising for Stack Up?

  • What motivated you to fundraise for Stack Up?

  • Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking of fundraising but isn't sure what to do?

  • Did you use Milestones and Incentives? What was a Milestone or Incentive you think your viewers really enjoyed?

As you may notice, we also included DonorDrive fundraiser links that these community members shared with us so that you can contribute to their fundraising goals if you want!

How did you learn about fundraising for Stack Up?

I participated in an event benefitting Stack Up with another community years ago. It was the second mental health charity I had raised for, and I LOVED their drive.

What motivated you to fundraise for Stack Up?

After learning about the charity five years ago, I raised for Stack Up every year on Veterans Day. And in September 2021, I decided to go full-time charity streaming for something benefitting mental health. Stack Up's active and positive community made them an easy choice.

Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking of fundraising but isn't sure what to do?

Just be yourself! People love seeing the passion you have for your charity, and excitement spreads like wildfire, so talk up your cause. Incentives are also great, but don't be afraid to make some up on the fly. A lot of times, random things come up while we're live, so offering to do something in-game/IRL not usually on your list can be a lot of fun for those who caught you in the moment while encouraging donations without sounding greedy.

Did you use Milestones and Incentives? What was a Milestone or Incentive you think your viewers really enjoyed?

Yes, my most popular incentive is definitely the Cat Dance. For $10, I'll go find my cat so we can do a dance on cam while I sing a little song I make up on the spot. Anything with your pets is always a huge win.

During Steve's talk on ubisoft forward 2021. Which was also the first time I heard about Stack up.

What motivated you to fundraise for Stack Up?

Doing something for a good cause with the low amount of streams that I do kinda was a no brainer.

Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking of fundraising but isn't sure what to do?

Have a look on the website, ask around at the stream team and IRT staff.

Did you use Milestones and Incentives? What was a Milestone or Incentive you think your viewers really enjoyed?

Haven't set any of them up. Mainly was too busy with finishing my study.

Go for it! Stack Up provides so many resources to assist with fundraising!

Did you use Milestones and Incentives? What was a Milestone or Incentive you think your viewers really enjoyed?

I think my viewers' favorite Goal was me taking a pie to the face. 2nd favorite was making me play Phasmophobia with no van rules for 10 hours. Their favorite incentive is writing on me or getting a temp. tattoo placed on my face!

How did you learn about fundraising for Stack Up?

A streamer I used to mod for did a fundraiser for Stack Up last year, and then Deity reached out to me. I've been hooked ever since. :)

What motivated you to fundraise for Stack Up?

The cause hits home. My father and stepfather were Vietnam vets; my great grandfather fought in both World Wars; my husband is retired Army; I have various other family and friends in various branches of the military. I've lost people to mental health, and I've struggled with it myself. Gaming has helped so many, including myself, and I fully believe in the mission and programs by Stack Up. It was a clear decision that I wanted to be a part of what Stack Up does.

Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking of fundraising but isn't sure what to do?

Talk with one of our Influencer Relations Team members. We're here to help you and support you. You're volunteering your time to help us spread our mission and programs, and we do everything we can to help you feel good about your event. And please remember, there is NO STREAMER TOO SMALL to make an impact. You are so much more than the money you might raise. You never know who's in your chat/community, or who might benefit from the information you're sharing. Especially with the Overwatch Program, that's open to everyone, including civilians. Every eye upon us spreads our mission and only expands the net to find more people we can help support. Don't underestimate yourself, and don't let numbers be what holds you back from helping.

Did you use Milestones and Incentives? What was a Milestone or Incentive you think your viewers really enjoyed?

Yes! Beanboozled are always a popular one; I also find wheel spins (especially if beans are included) are great. I've also had a lot of popularity with the Holiday Cookie Care Packages and exclusive Pin/Sticker designs this year.

Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking of fundraising but isn't sure what to do?

Just go for it. You have nothing to lose. If you don't reach your goal don't get discouraged. Whatever amount you raise is more than what they previously had, and it goes to help so many awesome people.

Did you use Milestones and Incentives? What was a Milestone or Incentive you think your viewers really enjoyed?

Incentive-wise, I, of course, did the bean boozled and the toxic waste sours. My milestones were me putting on a onesie or doing something on stream for a bit.

Start small, set a reachable goal. Contact your friends and family and let them know you've started. You'll be surprised how many people want to help, they just don't know how.
