Carlos requested a Supply Crate because his wife had to sell off his game consoles, games, and other gear off to stay afloat after he left to serve overseas in Ukraine.
My name is Carlos. I was a FMF navy corpsman with 3rd Mar Div. I served from 2002-2007. I was OIF I & II. I got out and struggled like most vets. In 2019 I graduated from NYU with a masters and professional certificate using my post 9/11 benefits. I enrolled at Fordham University in the EMBA program and I was in my second term. I was finally getting my life together, was doing well. In feb 2022, when the war started in Ukraine and on Feb 28th when Zelensky asked for experienced combat vets to go help. I did. I deferred my schooling, I put my apartment in storage, I had to spend $40,000 out of my own pocket to buy gear, I quit my job, and headed to Ukraine. I joined the Ukrainian army as a foreign fighter. I was one of the first to engage the 9 mile long Russian column in Izyum, I fought in south near Kherson from Mykolaiv, and before I left a year later, I was fighting near Donetsk and Bakhmut. This was done with no pay, all donations, I had no income, and was technically losing money being there after a year. After nearly dying in a minefield near the east, I had enough. A volunteer bought me a ticket back home. My wife had to sale a few of our possessions to pay for bills back home and my gaming stuff was among those things. I spent from March 2022-March 2023 in ukraine. I recently found out that unit I was going to be part of before I left was nearly completely all wiped out in the counteroffensive. Anyway, I’m thankful to be alive. Gaming keeps my mind busy. It has always been one of my salvations and hobbies. I play final fantasy’s, world of Warcraft, and path of exile. These are the games I like. I have severe ptsd, anxiety and depression and really bad social anxiety. I like to stay home the most and gaming helps. I haven’t worked technically since March of 2022, so I don’t have extra money to buy anything. I have a old ps2 that play star ocean on but it’s the only game I have for it. I was interviewed on CNN in May of last year. So I can provide proof and I still have my Ukrainian service record. I have zero ties to there but I went because I felt it was the right thing to do. No fame, no glory, I just had training and experience I felt could be used for good. That’s basically my story in a nutshell. My internet is satellite and I live in the woods so my internet is crap. I’m awaiting for an isp that will be fiber optics soon, but it should be next year sometime for it to be ready. I have 500gb a month that costs $366 a month so it’s expensive and unreliable but it’s the best I have here. So in the internet section I’ll put no. I have a starlink but it doesn’t work because I am surrounded by trees and it can’t get a good signal. The only way to remedy it is to put a tower up but it’s way too expensive for me to do. It’s great what you guys do. Thank you for doing it.
Volunteering to serve not once, but twice, it seems Carlos believes in the power of serving. We can't let this Veteran go without gaming so we sent him a new console and games.
Thank you ALL for being awesome. Totally stoked.
Thank you for serving, Carlos and thank you very much for all of the receipt photos, which we sent over to the sponsor of your Supply Crate.
RonnieFit sponsored Carlos' Supply Crate. RonnieFit and his community have long supported Stack Up through fundraising and donations of PCs to send out to Veterans. While we had to shut down our Vetrofit program, RonnieFit has helped us clear some of our backlogged requests and connect some Veterans with long-needed PCs for not only gaming, but other needs. Find RonnieFit on his YouTube channel and Funker530.
Hit the button below to support Stack Up! We had to make some budget cuts to make it into next year, and we need every dollar we can get to continue our programs supporting Veteran mental health through the power of gaming. Donate or fundraise today!
