Supply Crate – Guard Pass 3

It is time for us to share a very special Supply Crate delivery. The request came to us from Walter, who is a Registered Nurse with the Air Force stationed in Afghanistan. What makes this request so special, is that we were able to team up with Charity Nerds, an organization that provides new and used video games to kids facing challenges in order to provide comfort and fun, and deliver a crate of gaming goodies stateside to Walter’s children as well!

Keep reading below to check out Walter’s original request.

Greetings!
First of all, I would like to thank you all for your great work in supporting our service members throughout the world in a very unique, fun and effective manner. I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Walter, and I am an active duty US Air Force ICU Registered Nurse, stationed out of Travis Air Force Base in Northern California.

We arrived here at the beginning of April 2017 and will be here until the ending of October 2017. This is my 2nd deployment here in Afghanistan. We are currently deployed at the largest and main hospital in Afghanistan, with about a total of 300 of us here. We are a part of the 455th Expeditionary Medical Group, 455th Expeditionary Medical Operations Squadron. We are the Air Force component for Task Force Medical East, which provides combat medical and combat medical support services to U.S. and coalition forces throughout Afghanistan. We also support a 24/7 Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility (CASF) which serves as the aeromedical evacuation hub for all of Afghanistan.
We essentially have the capabilities of flying our wounded warriors out of theater in less than 24 hours and eventually back to the US. We also work alongside the U.S. Army, here at “Craig Joint Theater Hospital” at Bagram. I am currently working with a team of about 43 other Nurses, Doctors, and Respiratory/ Medical techs. in our Inpatient Unit. We also care for many of the wounded local Nationals here.

Unfortunately, we have been very busy here. As you may have seen the news recently with all of the bombings, injuries and casualties in this part of the world. We have been working day after day, often exhausted. In between the chaos, we still manage to find ways to cope with the massive trauma we are exposed to on the daily basis. We find humor as one of the main sources to keep us going, along with exercise. We also enjoy electronic entertainment such as movies and video games.
This is where you all come into “play”. I was talking to a friend who is part of another unit here on this base, and recommended that we contact you. They were so happy to have received one of your care packages and have continued to make great use of it in their unit. Many of us love to play video games to help decompress and take us away, even briefly from some of this craziness and thought this would be an amazing opportunity to help us finish the remainder of our deployment.

I hope that you all can consider supporting us. I appreciate all that you do for us and this great organization you have established to supporting our troop!
— Very respectfully, Walter Capt USAF NC

That is a hell of a story! Everyone here in the Stack Up community salutes you Walter, and your colleagues, for the dedication and hard work you do. While we can never understand the additional stress your work must cause we certainly understand how playing a few hours of games can help!

Thankfully we are not alone and thanks to great streamers like GryphonAMX who answer the Call to Arms, we are able to support fantastic Service Members like Walter. We packed up a Supply Crate full of gaming fun and sent it on its way. Walter was kind enough to send back some awesome photos and a few words of thanks our way.

Thank you all for the awesome crate that we just received! We are so happy and excited to get our game on! This means a lot to us and is an instant morale booster at a time and place where we are caring for so many wounded brothers in-arms in this hospital.

As we mentioned earlier we also sent a package of games to Walter’s children, Peyton and Keira thanks to the support of Charity Nerds! They also sent us a few pictures and some kind words as well.

Hi Dave! Thank you so much for the crate that we received!!! The kids were so excited when they opened the front door and found this large container waiting there. With their dad being away for so long, they get sad a lot, so it’s really a wonderful feeling as a mom to see your children happy and excited.

Thank you and thank you to everyone who made this happen! We are so thankful and appreciate everything that you’ve done.

We can not thank Walter and his family enough for sending back these amazing pics! Walter, thank you for all that you do, and we here at Stack Up are honored to be able to bring just a bit of happiness into your world.

If you’d like to make a donation that gets sent over to our troops as a Supply Crate, Stack-Up takes lightly used PS4, and Xbox One games and gear as well as cash donations. Please help us help these vets out here:
