Supply Crate – John

John is an Air Force Veteran with PTSD who had to give up his gaming consoles for financial reasons.

I served in the U.S. Air Force from 2006-2012, in that time I was deployed about half of the time I was in. I saw and did things that impacted me and I know will continue to impact me for the rest of my life. I have a 90% disability rating with 70% of that being PTSD with major depressive disorder. These days I’m an unemployed father of four and video games is always something that brings my children and I closer together and helps me relieve some stress and keeps my hands and mind engaged. In the last six months, I’ve had to sell off my modern consoles to feed my children, get them school clothes and supplies leaving me with only a pc that I mainly use for school and a little bit of gaming here and there. A crate would impact me positively in the sense that it would help clear my mind and take away some of the stress and anxiety I constantly feel. I want to be able to game with my kids on something other than an Xbox 360 but we just can’t afford anything with how expensive just groceries alone are. I miss playing games, I miss meeting people online and making friends. I miss the fun trash talking me and my kids do in the living room. I just want to feel like things are back to normal again.

Giving up a console for a gamer can be hard, especially if gaming was their way of connecting with others and coping with their mental health. That's exactly why Stack Up exists, however, and we sent off a Supply Crate with a new console for John and his family.

Hey Ian,
Just got the package in! Thank you guys so much, I can’t express how grateful we are! My kids are going to lose their minds over it and I couldn’t be more excited! This will definitely help me get out of my own mind for a while too, keep my hands and mind occupied! We’re actually going through the board game right now reading the rules and I’m excited to get that going with my family too! It’s been a little rough trying to keep my children occupied ever since my wife started having her heart problems so all of this will definitely help when I have to attend to her needs.
Thank you guys so very much again,
John

We're sorry to hear about your wife, but we hope this console will bring plenty of happy memories to you and yours, John.

This Supply Crate was sponsored by a group of Warframe players who worked together to raise the funds for it. They are: Aungelecette

It’s inspiring to see organizations like Stack Up leveraging the gaming community to make a tangible difference in the lives of veterans, providing both poppy playtime chapter 3 support and camaraderie. I think this is a great initiative that illustrates the positive role that gaming can play in promoting health and resilience.
