Army National Guard Veteran Valerie requested a Supply Crate to help her with her recovery after being diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension.
I have always loved to play video games. In 2020, while working as Recruiter I was able to take my passion for gaming and use and integrate it into my recruiting efforts with the Michigan Army National Guard. Prior to me being diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension and losing part of my vision I used to game and live stream as a way to connect with my young recruits and battle buddies and as a way to relieve stress. After the brain surgery that restored my vision, and helped relieve the pressure and the stroke that followed I have used video games as an active means in my functional recovery. It is part of my vision therapy, cognitive therapy, mental therapy and just a means for me to get back to a sense of grounding when I am feeling disconnected. Till this day as I am still at Walter Reed I am using games as means of recovery along with getting back into my sports. I use it to also connect with those I’ve deployed with as well. Between sports, gaming and diamond dots those have been the 3 things to help me find my way out of the darkness when dealing with my new physical, mental and emotional disabilities that I have sustained from the TBI, the stroke and VP Shunt placement.
Sounds like Valerie's body has been put through quite a lot. Did you know gaming can help when recovering from stroke? As an activity it can help those who have had a stroke regain finer movements and coordination while improving mental health. We hope by sending a PlayStation 5 to Valerie she can use it in her recovery and in connecting with other Veterans.
I would like to say thank you to Stack Up and to Ghostfalcon18 for this amazing gift and continued gaming fun. I am beyond grateful and honored and just extremely happy for this. Thank you so so much.
Thanks for the fantastic photos, Valerie.
