On Tuesday, August 2nd the Queens Stacks got out for a fun night of classic entertainment with Mallory Lewis and Lambchop. Read on to check out the full story!
The Queens Stack went to see Mallory Lewis and Lambchop perform at Heckscher Park in Huntington, NY. The show was part of the Huntington Summer Arts Festival, a series of free shows presented throughout the summer.
Lewis, the daughter of Shari Lewis (who originated the act with Lambchop nearly 60 years ago), began the show with a shout out to Stack-Up. She explained the organization’s mission, and described the Air Assaults and Supply Crates. This shouldn’t surprise, since she is a longtime supporter of the military — having done many USO shows. Also, her son, Jamie, is hoping to attend the Air Force Academy. And patriotism was one of the themes in the show, which included a medley of Patriotic songs. At one point, Mallory noted that regardless of who’s a Democrat and whose a Republican, who’s a liberal and who’s a conservative, we’re all Americans. The show touched on other themes as well — nostalgia was a big part of the show, which was on the 18th anniversary of Shari Lewis’ passing. And Mallory did a good job of striking a balance between children’s material and material that’s more mature in nature.
During the show, Ethan (the Queens Stack leader) sat at one of the merchandise tables, giving out Stack-Up wristbands and stickers. Afterwards the show, and after she had signed many autographs, Mallory took the time to talk to members of the Queens Stack. She reiterated her appreciation for the work Stack-Up does, and thanked the Queens Stack for coming.
