This past E3 our own EIC Brian “Skatch” Snyder had a chance to sit down and chat with Brent Disbrow from Relic Entertainment about the upcoming entry into the Warhammer 40K franchise, Dawn of War III. Before they got to chatting the Stack-Up RedShirts and our E3 Air Assaults, were treated to a great presentation video showcasing some of the gameplay on offer.
The scale of DoW3 is simply massive. Several units loom large on the screen dwarfing other, yet still massive, characters. The graphics are indeed quite pretty and all the requisite explosions and mayhem leap to life at the click of a mouse. The units all look satisfying to control and the gameplay seems solid from the visuals presented.
Base-building makes a return to the series and looks to be implemented into the flow quite nicely. Far from being a distraction, it seems to fit in well with the attack/hold/attack of moving along and securing the map.
Overall, the game simply looked great and fun to play. I am looking forward to getting my hands on it and playing through the story. I was even more excited after hearing the conversation with Brent Disbrow. His enthusiasm for the genre and respect for the source material is amazing to hear. I am happy to share the interview with you in the video below.
Thanks, Brent and the folks at Relic for your time. Stand by readers, as this is one I will be keeping my eye on.
